I loved Lead Management and Choice Theory® so much that I became an instructor myself in 1993 so I could teach these ideas to anyone else who wanted to develop the expertise. It was one of Dr. Glasser’s books that gave me the best direction on how to become a supervisor when I was first promoted from the front lines and found myself supervising my former colleagues. It will provide you with a model to help your people self-evaluate their own behavior so they can become a more productive worker.
One of the things I like best about Choice Theory® is its wide-spread application—you can use it in your personal, as well as your professional life. It provides transferable skills for everyday life. Choice Theory® helped me to become a better supervisor, counselor, mother, life partner, friend and a better all around person. When you truly embrace its teachings, Choice Theory® becomes a way of life instead of a hypothetical theory of human behavior.
Over the years, I have taught hundreds of leaders and supervisors just like you. Gary Zukav says, “Relationship is the root of all influence.” They don’t tell education students that in college. You are taught curriculum development and behavior management and many teaching programs actually discourage getting too friendly with your students. Many teachers have confided they were told to be sure not to smile at least until the Thanksgiving break.
It’s practically impossible to influence sustained change without a relationship. Your students will be more willing to learn what you are teaching if they like you. Your students will be less likely to create behavior problems if they like and respect you. The respect part requires a consistent presentation and approach of letting your students know they are capable of self-discipline and teaching them the skills they need to do that so you won’t have to.
School Administrators
The Quality School Program is an initiative that will change the entire culture of your school. There are currently twenty (20) Glasser-approved Quality Schools—some are secondary, some are elementary, some are public, some are private, some are special education schools, some are in wealthy communities and some are in areas of poverty. These concepts and ideas transcend culture and socio-economic status.
The following are the results realized by the twenty Glasser-approved Quality Schools:
- Relationships are based upon trust and respect, and all discipline problems, not incidents, have been eliminated.
Total Learning Competency is stressed and an evaluation that is below competence or what is now a "B" has been eliminated. All schooling as defined by Dr. William Glasser has been replaced by useful education.
All students do some Quality Work each year that is significantly beyond competence. All such work receives an "A" grade or higher, such as an "A+".
Students and staff are taught to use Choice Theory in their lives and in their work in school. Parents are encouraged to participate in study groups to become familiar with the ideas of Dr. William Glasser.
Students do better on state proficiency tests and college entrance examinations. The importance of these tests is emphasized in the school.
Staff, students, parents and administrators view the school as a joyful placeEvery student really can succeed and implementing Quality School ideas convinces even the most “tuned out” students that they, too, can succeed in school.
Schools have successfully applied for NCLB grant money to implement the Quality School training. Application of the ideas can be incorporated into your Continuous Improvement Plans.
Training in Choice Theory® not only helps individuals in their professional life, but it provides wide-spread applicability to one’s personal life. When your staff is more satisfied personally, they will be able to more fully devote themselves to the work at hand.
As far as training programs go, training in Quality School concepts is relatively inexpensive. If you send individual teachers to a week of training, the cost is $500 per teacher or counselor. If you have more than twelve (12) teachers or counselors, then it would be more cost effective to hire me to come to your school where I can train sixteen (16) individuals for $6000 without them incurring any travel expenses.

What about the teachers who won’t get on board? Every school has those teachers who refuse to look at doing things differently. They are the ones who are either terrified of change, are sure their methods are the only ones that truly work or are simply oppositional to any new ideas that are introduced. When we begin a Quality School program, we like to start at the top with either the superintendents if the program is district-wide or with the principal if it’s school-wide and then with any other individuals who are interested in learning the concepts, ideas and techniques.
What then begins to happen is that other teachers start to notice the success that is occurring in their colleague’s classrooms and many will become curious as to what’s making the difference. Those who are still resistant will remain resistant but there will be so few of them that their presence will be inconsequential. Some may even leave your school because they won’t be able to tolerate the pressure to get on board. This will be an internal pressure as well as a pressure from the students and fellow teachers, not from the administration.
Teachers
Naturally, the Quality School program is greatly exciting—the thought of an entire building or school district immersing itself in one philosophy for the betterment of all. However, it is possible for you to make a difference within your classroom, even if you are the only one in the school applying Quality School concepts. This is why Dr. Glasser wrote the book, Quality School Teacher.
This training will help you gain the control you seek in your classroom, as well as make your classroom a place where both you and the students like to be.
I offer this week of training in two possible formats. It is either offered as a one-week, four to five consecutive days of training totaling a minimum of 27 hours or it can be offered two-days one week and two days within two weeks of the first days of training for a minimum of 30 hours of training.

Certification is a five-step process. If you are interested in certification in Choice Theory® and Reality Therapy, then this Basic Intensive Week is the first step.
