Course Objectives:

  • Discriminate between consulting, supervision and coaching.
  • List the five needs of all human behavior.
  • Discuss the need(s) people are attempting to meet given the behavior they display.
  • List the process of InsideOut Coaching and practice its steps.
  • Discuss and practice active listening skills.
  • Generate at least three options to perceived, presented dilemma.
  • Practice moving beyond either or solutions to “yes, and . . .”
  • Practice facilitating a person’s self-evaluation.
  • Discriminate inconsistencies and practice skillful confrontation of them.
  • Practice supporting and challenging those being coached and managing their potential excuses.
  • Participate in the Goal Attainment process.

Assignments and Evaluation: 
  • A final exam based upon the reading and material covered in class. (50%)
  • A journal at the conclusion of each class detailing the student’s thoughts about the information presented and its personal or professional application. (10%)
  • In-class participation in discussions, activities and exercises which evidences a willingness to try new ideas and begin to integrate these ideas into one’s coaching practice (20%)
  • Optional completion of the Goal Attainment System. (20%)
  • Grading

    90%-100% = A                    70%-79% = C
    86%-89% = B+                    0%-69% = F
    80%-85% = B                                    

Procedures:

The primary instructional methods to be employed in this course will be short lecture, large group discussion, small group activities and exercises, handouts, and role play.
