Hi Everyone, I need to apologize to anyone who has tried to get on any of my sites or send me an email in the past week and a half.. Unfortunately, someone reported me for sending spam. I have NEVER sent spam and operate my business with the utmost integrity and protect my subscriber list diligently. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, my hosting company takes reports of spam very seriously and shuts down the accused site without needing proof of spam. I want to apologize to any of my loyal subscribers for this inconvenience and if you are on my mailing list and believe you did not ask to be, then simply go to the bottom of this email and click on the unsubscribe link and you will be immediately removed from my list. I do not want to be sending email to anyone who does not wish to receive it. Make today the day you want it to be! |

A Dozen Stress Reducers for You If you are familiar with the concept of “Inside Out Thinking,” then you already know that I don’t conceptualize stress as something that exists outside of you. It is actually something you create inside. Stress is a behavior you create to help you get something you want. The only way to reduce stress is to empower yourself to take control of what you can control—namely your actions and your thoughts. You may not believe you can control what you think but with patience, persistence and practice it is not only possible but critical to maintaining a positive state of mental health.
Stress is not inevitable. You definitely do NOT have to be a victim of it. Know that you are choosing it. Know that you are getting something from it and then make a conscious decision about whether or not you want to continue on your same path or do something different. "If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not -Marcus Aurelius This quote helps us to understand what "Inside Out Thinking" is all about. It is not the events in your lives that are disturbing but rather the thoughts you have about those events and guess what the good news is? You can choose to think differently if you want to. Life events happen. Actually events are neutral - balanced out by an equal amount of positive and negative results attached. Where you place your focus will determine your experience of the event. This explains how some people are overwhelmed by seemingly little stress in their lives, while others are happily going about their business when they seem to have extraordinary amounts of stress. |

I also have great ideas on decreasing your holiday stress. You can read about them in my article How to Manage Holiday Stress. |

Question: I have been asking my staff to implement some changes for a while now and I'm frustrated they just don't seem to get it. I think they know what to do and how to do it. I even believe they want to it but it still isn't happening. Any ideas of what to try next? Answer: Well, I don't have a lot of specific information but going on the little I do know, you have assessed three of four areas I typically try to assess. The first area is do your workers know what is being asked? If they don't, then you need to provide them with the information so they can know. Secondly, you want to find out if they know how. This is typically a training issue. Many think that if they know what, then they will automatically know how and that just isn't true. The third area is do they want to do it - are they motivated? Many people are afraid of change and lack the motivation needed to proceed or they don't understand how the change will benefit them. If this is the case, then it is your job, as manager, to help them understand what's in it for them. You are trying to develop the internal motivation to help them understand why they should want to do it. The final area to look at is whether or not the work environment is conducive or supportive of the change you are trying to get. One thing that often impedes progress is a lack of trust. Do your staff trust each other, you the manager and the company? When there is no trust, people are in protection mode. Whenever someone is in protection mode, he or she cannot grow. It is not possible. So, check the environment and see if there are changes you can make there to promote what you want. |
