A Message from Kim |

Well, summer is drawing to a close. This is a big vacation month here in the United States so if you haven’t already had yours, I wish you well and if you’ve already gone, I trust it was everything you hoped it would be. I want to apologize to my readers. I recently learned of the difficulty people were experiencing when attempting to leave a comment on my blog. I did not know that when you clicked on the “comment” button, it would ask for tons of information and then you’d type your comment, attempt to post it, only to be asked to log in. Once you logged in, your comment was lost and you’d have to begin all over again. I sincerely apologize if this happened to any of my readers. It was some type of glitch in the software which has since been corrected. Now if you wish to post a comment, all you will have to do is leave your name and email address once. After that, you just need to log in with your user name and password. It should be a relatively painless procedure. I would love to get some comments. I was feeling like I was writing to some big cyberspace vortex somewhere. Talk to me! I’d love to get a dialogue going and get blog readers commenting to each other. Finally, I have a new product that I’d like to mention here. You should all have received an email about this new product. I put together a f-r-e-e class on “Relationships the Choice Theory Way”. It is a class where people can call in and hear the monthly message and then ask questions or make comments. I realize that there are lots of people out there who can’t afford to pay for help with their relationships. Additionally, there may be people out there who are trying to get a sense of who I am and what I do so this will be a good chance for those folks to get to know me better so they can make an informed decision about whether or not I’m the right person for them. If you know of anyone who could benefit from this f-r-e-e class, please pass on the information. I believe this class will be very helpful for anyone who wants to improve an important relationship in his or her life. This class is not limited to couple relationships. It’s about important relationships in general. So, callers can get help with their life partner, children, parents, friends, co-workers, boss, parents, in-laws, siblings or anyone else who is important in their lives. You can click here for more information. I appreciate all those who are helping me reach to reach my goal of 1000 subscribers. If you are passing along this ezine to others, please ask them to go to www.coachingforexcellence.biz to actually sign up to receive their own copy of the ezine. This is what will expand my subscriber base. Thank you again for all your help. |

Teleclasses: Your New Innovative Way to Learn What the heck is a teleclass anyway? Teleclasses, also called teleconferences, are an innovative method for bringing information to you without you needing to leave your home or office. Most teleclasses are promoted by people who do business online. You will find them advertised on websites, in online advertising or perhaps in an email you receive. After speaking with several focus groups, I now understand that many people are unaware of exactly what a teleclass is and are concerned that there is some type of catch or hidden cost. First of all, teleclasses are simply conference calls, ranging in size from three to thousands of participants. When you sign up for a teleclass, you typically receive an email that will give you the details for calling in. You simply dial the phone number provided at the agreed upon time for the class, enter the access code provided and you are instantly connected to the other participants who registered for the call and the teleclass leader. You only need a telephone to participate in the calls. If you don’t have a computer to receive the confirmation email, most teleclass leaders will provide an alternative to email for you to get the necessary information, such as a telephone call. Many people are afraid that there are hidden costs with teleclasses. Many teleclasses are free or list for a nominal cost, such as $19-$49. The only additional cost to you would be whatever your phone company charges for long distance fees. So, if your long distance cost is $.05/minute, then a 60 minute teleclass would cost you only $3.00! Many people will opt to use their cell phone to avail themselves of their free minutes so the call costs nothing! Teleclasses gained popularity after 9/11, when many people began avoiding larger gatherings, such as seminars or workshops. Teleclasses are the perfect way to gain information without having to travel to a remote location where there are large groups of people. Also, during today’s information age when people need information quickly, teleclasses make the perfect choice. Most teleclasses are 60-90 minutes in length and are geared toward giving information on a variety of topics. Each teleclass is generally devoted to a specific topic. An expert will disseminate information on the call and participants are generally given the opportunity to ask questions and to interact with the presenter and the other participants either throughout or at the end of the call. Key points are highlighted but there is not the depth of information most people get from attending an in-person event. Also, there is generally not the same atmosphere or personal touch people get from attending a live, in-person seminar but the advantages are many. For example, you don’t have to speak if you don’t want to. No one will even know you are on the call. You can maintain your anonymity. You can hang up if the call doesn’t interest you. You can multitask in the comfort of your own home or office. As long as your phone is muted, no one will know what you are doing. You don’t have to be concerned about what to wear. You can attend a teleclass in your bath robe if you want. (This may not be so easy if you are already at the office!) Also, driving directions are never a problem. Teleclasses don’t tie up any more of your time than the actual call is scheduled for, leaving you free to continue with your active, busy life. Teleclasses are a new, convenient alternative for people looking to gain information without investing a lot of time. Many times a teleclass is offered by people who also provide in-person workshops. The teleclass is a great way to “test drive” the speaker to determine whether or not you want to invest your time in a full-day seminar. Coaching for Excellence offers several teleclasses for the busy professional. Look below in the upcoming events section for our latest teleclass offerings. If you are interested in registering for any of these classes, just visit www.coachingforexcellence.biz and click on the “Classes” link on the left-hand navigation bar or to go directly to the teleclass page, just click on the following link or copy and paste it into your browser: http://www.coachingforexcellence.biz/Teleclasses.shtml. "If you want to do anything you find a way. If you don't want to do anything you find an excuse." –unknown This quote is self-explanatory. If you really want to do something, you figure out a way to do it. Can you remember something in your life that was so important to you, you thought you’d just die if you didn’t get it or get to do it? I’d be willing to bet that you did whatever was necessary to make it happen. Do you remember the true story of Carl Brashear, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. in Men of Honor? If you didn’t see the movie, I don’t want to spoil it for you but Brashear provides a living example of doing whatever it takes to achieve one’s goal. When you don’t want to do something, it’s easy to find an excuse. What is your predominant mode of going through life? Are you doing whatever it takes to accomplish your goals or are you basically coasting through life, making excuses for why you aren’t doing what you need to do? If you answered the latter, what would it take to move you into the former category? Do you think a coach might help? |

The Game This book goes hand in hand with the quote this month. The Game is a method of becoming one of the people who makes things happen instead of making excuses. The Game is a book but it’s also an actual game that is set up on a website at www.saranokelley.com. When I first read the book, I had mixed feelings. The book is incredibly inspirational and helps us to look at areas in our lives where we can make definite improvements. The subtitle of the book is “Win Your Life in 90 Days”. The Game helps you take a look at your life and implement the changes necessary to move you drastically in the direction you want to go. The game addresses such issues as time management and why there never seems to be enough time. It also helps you examine and then put helpful structures in place that will assist you in accomplishing your goals. Affinity is another topic that Kelley discusses. He says that developing passion around what you are doing is crucial to your success so initially, it is important to partner with someone who already loves whatever it is you are trying to do or accomplish. Kelley speaks about the importance of having a community behind you that supports and inspires you toward your goals. He suggests that if you don’t have that type of community now, then you need to expand your contacts. The Game actually provides you with just such a community. Finally, he talks about your life’s purpose and getting clear about it. Once you are clear about your life’s purpose, it can serve as a compass directing all your activity. The book asks you to take a close look at the following areas in your life: balance, body and health, money, relationships, spiritual life, mind, tools, environment, education, family, work, charities and hobbies, interests and art. You choose basically three or four areas where you will focus during your game and create goals for yourself. You will assign points for accomplishing your goals and create consequences when you don’t follow through. The Game online is an intense 90-day period where a lot can happen or nothing can happen----it’s all up to you and what you put into it. I just finished playing my first game and it was great! I stopped keeping score however and didn’t follow through on consequences because that was the part that I didn’t personally find useful. I was already intrinsically motivated to do the things I set out to do. I had a great partner who supported what I was doing and maintained contact with me throughout. I am finishing my 90-day game much farther ahead than I would have been without playing. If you want to make some big changes in your life and follow through on your commitments, then I suggest you try The Game---you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you are having difficulty making progress toward your goals, there are two possible explanations I’d like to discuss here. Sometimes we are paralyzed by the sheer size of what it is we are trying to accomplish. For example, I decided I wanted to write a book last summer. I had a title and I had some ideas about what I wanted to say. However, I did nothing more than determine the titles of the chapters until I found a program that helped authors to write their books. This program took the large goal of writing a book and broke it down into an 18-step process. Then, throughout the program, each of the eighteen steps was reduced even further to very small, manageable steps. If you are facing a big, overwhelming goal, then break it down into smaller manageable steps and take them one at a time. Which leads me into my second explanation. . .People often think that they have to be perfect to begin. You might think you don’t know enough yet. You might think you don’t yet have enough experience. You might think there are others who are better at it than you. None of that is important. My colleague, Lamont Brown says, “You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great.” Just start. You can perfect your skills along the way. If you wait to be perfect, life will pass you by. Just get started and start with small, manageable steps. |

How would you like to take one of my teleclasses for f.ree? All you have to do is get two (2) people to subscribe to either of my e-zines and send me their e-mail addresses for confirmation with the name of the teleclass you would like to attend. If you do not wish to attend one of the teleclasses, you can give your f.ree teleclass to a friend or family member. It’s that simple! Send either one or both of the following links to all your friends and family and ask them to subscribe to the e-zine. For the personal edition of "Inside Out", go to The Relationship Center and for the business/school edition go to Coaching for Excellence and have them type their name and email address in the boxes on the right-hand side of the web page where it says, “Subscribe to Receive 'Inside Out', our Fr.ee EZine". Only two people actually have to subscribe for you to be eligible for a f.ree teleclass. Once their subscription has been confirmed you will receive an e-mail giving you the bridge line and access code for the teleclass of your choosing. A listing of teleclasses being offered can be found in both my weekly e-zine or on my calendar page at either web site. There is no limit to the amount of f.ree teleclasses you can earn---you get one f.ree teleclass for every two referrals that sign up for one of my e-zines. Within the next year I am planning on adding many new teleclasses on several topics including the following:
Please continue to check this eZine and my website calendar for these new and exciting teleclasses. Don’t wait, take advantage of this offer and experience the new technology of teleclasses, learning and growing from home or office. |

Question: I work in a school and I am a teacher who is really into the idea of Quality Schools but no one else in the school is. Can I still implement these ideas even though I don’t have the support of the administration or any other teachers? Answer: Absolutely. You, and others like you, are the reason that Dr. William Glasser wrote the book, The Quality School Teacher! This book is dedicated to those teachers who want to implement the Quality School concepts but who have no support around them. The question to ask yourself is, “Whose behavior can I control?” We all know the answer to that question. You cannot control anyone’s behavior other than your own. So, when you are feeling frustrated, please remember that you can’t make others believe in these ideas as you do. All you can do is implement them as best you can in the confines of your particular classroom. For the most part, this should not be too difficult. The administration will probably continue to use external control, just as most of the people on the planet do. This provides wonderful teaching opportunities for you to help your students understand that they need to get their own needs met even in situations where external control is being applied. Please, keep me posted as to how this is working out for you. Thanks for your question. |
